The 2018 Training for schools of the Accreditation of Medical Education held

On May 12, 2018, the 2018 Training for schools of the accreditation of medical education was grandly held in Yangzhou, co-hosted by the Medical Education Professional Committee of the Chinese Higher Education Institute and the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education and organized by Yangzhou University Medical College. More than 400 participants from 80 medical colleges in China attended the training.


Professor Wang Weimin, deputy secretary-general of the Working Committee, made a keynote speech on “Introduction of the 2016 version of the Standards for Basic Medical Education." Wen Liyang, one of the committee members of the Working Committee and former vice president of Tongji Medical University, provided detailed guidance on the preparation of the self-evaluation report. Professor Wen Liyang has participated in the site visits of 13 colleges and universities. He pointed out that there was a phenomenon of “homogeneity” in the self-evaluation reports and emphasized that colleges and universities should combine their own positioning objectives with the actual situation of the school to write reports honestly to facilitate the assessment experts to help the school to find problems and provide guidance. Professor Wen’s report had a strong practical guiding significance for the schools applying for accreditation.


Xie Ana, Office Director of the Secretariat of the Working Committee, introduced the accreditation process and work system in detail, emphasized the accreditation discipline, and published the feedback data of the accreditation for medical education for the first time: 90.5% of the accredited institutions were satisfied with the general situation of the accreditation work and the rest were very satisfied; 100% of the institutions believed that the preliminary report of the accreditation experts pointed out the key issues of the school.


Professor Shi Hongcan, deputy dean of the Medical College of Yangzhou University, introduced the preparation process of the accreditation and the impact of accreditation on medical education from the perspective of accredited institutions. His wonderful speech won the resonance of the participants. Professor Gao Xingya, director of the Academic Affairs Department of Nanjing Medical University pointed out that accreditation of medical education was different from the evaluation. It was a systematic, methodological and scientific professional accreditation. The purpose of accreditation was to promote the continuous improvement of medical education in colleges and universities. He emphasized that the accreditation of medical education was a comprehensive examination of school education and teaching work.


In the afternoon, the training included three workshops. Focusing on three themes of “formulation of the cultivation plan”, “assessment and evaluation” and “development of teachers”, experts were invited to share advanced experience.


The training for schools of the accreditation of medical education aimed to disseminate the accreditation concept and provide guidance for institutions applying for the medical accreditation. The scale of the training for schools was larger than before, indicating that the medical colleges and universities recognized the effectiveness of the accreditation of medical education. The training for schools would gradually develop into a communication platform for medical educators. Participants exchanged experiences, collided ideas, acquired new knowledge, built consensus and strived for the reform of Chinese medical education.
