The 2019 training for the Accreditation of Medical Education successfully held ----Quality and Development of Medical Education

On April 19-20, 2019, the 2019 training for the accreditation of medical education, which topic was the quality and development of medical education, was successfully held in Beijing, hosted by the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education, Clinical Medicine Teaching Steering Committee of Ministry of Education and National Center for Health Professions Education Development. More than 700 participants from 89 medical colleges in China attended the training.

Mr. Gao Bin, director of the Agriculture, Forestry and Medical Education division of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, made a key speech around the new requirements and new situations in the reform and development of higher education, the new requirements and countermeasures in the reform and development of medical education, the future development of medical education accreditation and so on. He introduced the future policies of the Ministry of Education including enrollment transformation, model reform, structural optimization, professional innovation, etc. And he also pointed out that schools should fully recognize the necessity of clinical medical professional accreditation and fully learning, understanding and practice the accreditation standards. He indicated that it’s important to strengthen the training of schools and accreditation experts and accelerate the accreditation process of clinical medicine. Thereout, to effectively promote the quality of medical education in China through the accreditation.

Theme report on the morning of 19th, Professor Wang Weimin, the vice president of Peking University Health Science Center, chairman of the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education, and the executive deputy director of the National Center for Health Professions Education Development, made a keynote speech “improving medical education based on standards”.

The speech provided a macro introduction from the development and reform of medical education, the progress and effect of professional accreditation, the value orientation and response of accreditation and the issues in the accreditation process.

Finally the speech proposed that the medical education accreditation plays an important role in improving the concepts, guiding processes and quality of medical education.

Wen Liyang, counselor of the Working Committee and former vice president of Tongji Medical University, proposed the important observation points for medical education accreditation and provided detailed guidance on the preparation of the self-evaluation report according to Accreditation Standards for Basic Medical Education in China and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Basic Medical Education.

He emphasized that colleges and universities should combine their own positioning objectives with the actual situation of the school to write reports honestly to facilitate the assessment experts to help the school to find problems and provide guidance.

From the afternoon of 19th to the morning of 20th, senior medical education experts, representatives of the accredited colleges and universities and the secretary of the Working Committee gave speeches on the concept and connotation of medical education, the course and experience sharing of accreditation and the accreditation process of  medical education.

Lv Zhaofeng, counselor of the Working Committee and member of the Expert Committee of Medical Education, combed the medical education accreditation and clinical teaching classic model, analyzed the medical education teaching stage and curriculum system composition and summarized the classic model of clinical teaching reform.His speech provided an important reference for colleges and universities to clarify the key elements of medical education and design talent training programs.

Yang Mianhua, one of the committee members of the Working Committee and education counselor of Shantou University Medical College, introduced the practice of medical curriculum integration with examples and she believed the methods of curriculum integration should be formulated according to the colleges and universities' own situation.

Jiang Guanchao, director of the Education Department of Peking University People’s Hospital, introduced the relevant standards and construction elements and shared the construction experience about the clinical teaching bases of the basic education, postgraduate education and continuing education.

Li Haichao, deputy dean of Peking University First Hospital, deeply analyzed the important role of PBL teaching in clinical thinking training for students under the theme of “PBL and clinical thinking training”.

Gao Xingya, former director of the Academic Affairs Office of Nanjing Medical University, made a deep speech on the situation and development of the education informatization and medical education informatization and combed the  informatization construction of medical education.

Cao Depin, one of the committee members of the Working Committee and former vice president of Harbin Medical University, system combed the key links and ideas of medical education management.

Bao Wei, the researcher of Perking University Education College, introduced the monitoring of college teaching quality and the evaluation model of student development which supported by data.

Qing Ping, director of the Academic Affairs Department of Huaxi Medical College of Sichuan University, and Liang Yong, dean of school of Medical college of Taizhou University, respectively shared the reform achievements under the guidance of the medical education accreditation, which reflected the promotion effect of accreditation on the professional construction and teaching reform for medical colleges. And they all fully affirmed the accreditation concept of “early accreditation, early benefit”.

In addition, Xie Ana, Secretary General of the Working Committee, introduced the concept of accreditation, the development background in China and abroad, the procedures for accreditation and colleges’ and universities’ preparation for accreditation. She also gave more specific and further guidance for each colleges and universities.

He Tao, vice president of Southwest Medical University, Yu Yongqiang, vice president of Anhui Medical University, Xu Lingxiao, director of Teaching Office of Medical College of Zhejiang University, Shen Shigang, vice president of Hebei University, and Li Yan, vice president of Kunming Medical University, served as the guest host of the meeting.

In addition, this training had a half-day discussion and exchange learning based on the participants' questions and learning needs, which used a combination form of online barrage interaction and offline questioning to fully gave participants opportunity to ask questions and communicate with others.

All the participants participated actively and the questions raised online and offline were answered by experts. The atmosphere of the meeting was very active.

This training aims to disseminate accreditation concepts and provides guidance to colleges and universities who applying for medical education accreditation. The scale of this training is advance, reflecting medical colleges and universities pay their attention to the medical education accreditation.

The Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education and National Center for Health Professions Education Development will strive to provide more platforms for medical educators to communicate and learn from each other, and to promote the participants to exchange their experiences furtherly, collide their ideas and build their consensus!
