Entrusted by the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), the Secretariat of the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education received a five-member Myanmar delegation led by Samuel KyawHla, the head of the Myanmar Medical Committee, to observe and exchange experience on the accreditation of medical education.

Arranged by the Secretariat, the Myanmar delegation was divided into two groups and respectively went to Hebei Medical University and Tongji University for site visit from 12th to November 16th. Through the five-day study tour, the Myanmar delegation learned about the accreditation process and work flow of the accreditation of medical education in China, and had in-depth exchanges with team members of the assessment team and the accredited schools.

On November 17th, the Myanmar delegation met with the Secretariat of the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education. A seminar was held for the two sides to exchange experience of accreditation of medical education. Wang Weimin, the vice president of Peking University Health Science Center, deputy secretary-general of the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education, Jiang Guanchao, director of the Education Department of Peking University People's Hospital, Xie A'na, deputy director of the Education Department of Peking University Health Science Center, director of the Secretariat Office of the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education, and the Secretariat office staff participated in the seminar. At the seminar, Prof. Wang Weimin gave a detailed introduction on the overall situation of Chinese medical education and the development and workflow of Chinese accreditation of medical education. Since China used the Standards for Basic Medical Education in China to accredit medical schools in 2008, the accreditation system for medical education has went through nearly 10 years in China. Under the condition of unbalanced development, imperfect quality control and lagging reform of the medical education in China, the establishment and improvement of the accreditation system will help China to promote the dissemination of advanced medical education concepts, the quality of clinical medical education, the scientization of education management, and the medical education reform.

Kyi Kyi Thinn, a member of the Myanmar delegation and the secretary of the Myanmar Medical Committee, introduced the related medical situation in Myanmar. At present, the medical education in Myanmar is booming and private medical colleges are beginning to emerge. Therefore, it is particularly important to establish a national accreditation system for medical education programmes. Members of the delegation said that this trip to China has greatly helped the establishment of the Myanmar accreditation system. Through this study and observation trip, the members of the Myanmar Medical Committee learned about the medical education programme accreditation in China, studied the formulation and implementation of standards for medical accreditation, the process and operation of medical accreditation and witnessed the accreditation results. The Myanmar delegation expressed their gratitude to the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education for its comprehensive support. They highly praised the enthusiasm and dedication of the assessment team. They expressed their admiration for the rapid development of China's accreditation system of medical education.

Myanmar delegation's study tour to China to observe the medical accreditation represents an international recognition of China's clinical medical accreditation, providing opportunities for the exchange and promotion of Chinese medical accreditation experience, and expanding China's international influence on medical accreditation. The Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education will continue to promote international cooperation and exchange of medical education accreditation, help the government with the construction of an accreditation system in line with public interests, and promote the development of global public health.
