To be certified by ECFMG, international medical graduates (IMGs) must pass the USMLE’s stage 1, stage 2 clinical knowledge (CK), and stage 2 clinical skills (CS) exams. For the USMLE project, ECFMG issued a moratorium on phase 2 clinical skills (CS) exams for the next 12 to 18 months, a pathway has been identified to allow international medical graduates (IMGS) who have not passed the stage 2 clinical skills (CS) examination to meet the requirements of ECFMG certification. These pathways allow ECFMG certification to continue its important function of providing assurance to the public and the US Graduate Medical Education (GME) program, enabling international medical graduates (IMGS) to enter supervised training.
