On July 8th, the 2018 training for assessors of medical accreditation & the 10th anniversary of the accreditation of medical education in China, hosted by the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education (WCAME), was held in Beijing Best Western OL Stadium Hotel. Leaders from the Ministry of Education, National Health Commission and Higher Education Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education, as well as more than 130 assessors from universities across the country attended this conference. Qiming WANG, deputy director ofDepartment of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, Qiurong YU, deputy director of Science, Technology and Education Department of National Health Commission delivered keynote speeches.
At the beginning of this conference, Qiming WANG, deputy director of Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, delivered a detailed remark focusing on three issues: how to promote the development of medical education in the new era, how to implement moral cultivation, and how to refine the higher education down to higher medical education. He pointed out that there is a huge gap between the professional training and social demand, and said that we should pay close attention to the Health China Strategy, the wave of science and technological revolution, and the direction of medicine education cooperation. By doing so, we hope to carry out successful medical education reform, return to the original essence of “ elite education”and cultivate excellent medical professionals.
Qiurong YU, deputy director of Science, Technology and Education Department of National Health Commission, said in the speech that she was satisfied with the achievements of accreditation of medical education in the past decade and paid tribute to the senior assessors. She also stated that it is the best times to launch the reform of medicine education cooperation. Now we should consistently learn from the international counterparts, enhance the international communication for assessors and universities and carry out the reform of medical education from the perspective of student pool.
An important session of this conference is the celebration of 10th anniversary of the Accreditation of Medical Education. All the experts watched the 10th anniversary video , reviewed the development process and accomplishments in a decade. Qiming WANG, deputy director of Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, Fan WEI, director of Higher Education Evaluation Center of the Ministry of Education, Bin GAO, deputy head of the Agricultural, Forest and Medical division of Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, Qiurong YU, deputy director of Science, Technology and Education Department of National Health Commission, Prof. Boji Cheng, former Vice Principal of Beijing Medical University(the Peking University Health Science Center)and Secretary-General of the WCAME, and other leaders and experts awarded the certificates to assessors and teams for their constant support and devotion to accreditation of medical education.
After the commemoration, Prof. David Gordon, president of World Federation of Medical Education (WFME), introduced what WFME is and what the recognition procedures of WFME is, and clarified the significance of accreditation for promoting the quality of medical education. Then, experts discussed experience and related problems of the accreditation of medical education.
