In 2019, Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education organized accreditation teams to launch site visit in Hebei North University and other 16 schools based on Standards for Basic Medical Education in China.

One month before the site visit, 17 schools submitted self-assessment reports to WCAME secretariat and members of the accreditation team. They carried out comprehensive and objective reviews of their medical education, compared 10 first-class items and 44 second-class items in the accreditation standard in accordance with the requirements of the Guideline for the Accreditation of Basic Medical Education, and.

On the basis of the self-assessment reports, the accreditation team paid site visits of 4-5 days, talked and exchanged with school leaders, teachers, students, teaching management personnel and other relevant stakeholders, listened to onsite reports and observed courses, etc. Through these efforts, the strengths and suggested improvements of medical education were raised by the accreditation team, and a preliminary accreditation report was formed and fed back to the colleges.

Two months after the site visit, the team completed the accreditation report. The accreditation report will be submitted to the WCAME for reviewing after consulting with the school to ensure the objectivity and accuracy of the related facts and data.

On March 8, 2020, WCAME reviewed the accreditation report and conclusion recommendations at its 2019 annual meeting. So far, WCAME has completed the accreditation site visit of 105 colleges and universities. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, WCAME will continue to improve the accreditation process and continue to promote the accreditation of medical education.
