Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education was Invited to Participate in the 2019 Global Symposium on Accreditation and Regulation of Health Workforce

December 9th -13th, the 2019 Global Symposium on accreditation and regulation of health workforce, co-organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the American Council of Foreign Medical Graduates education (ECFMG) and the Global Health Workforce Network (GHWN), was held in Turkey and more than 200 delegates from over 50 countries and regions attended the conference.

The meeting focused on hot issues such as the participating institutions, the fields involved and the operating mechanism of health workforce certification and regulation, and a heated discussion was launched on the existing certification and regulation system of different forms, the challenges faced, the exploration of feasible methods and the measures to be taken. The symposium was aimed to strengthen the construction of the certification and regulation system for health workforce and improve the quality of human resources for global health.

Wang Weimin, chairman of WCAME, and Secretary General Xie Ana were invited to attend the symposium. On behalf of WCAME, in the discussion session of the plenary meeting, they introduced the Chinese accreditation system for medical education and the health workforce reform measures to meet the needs of the population growth in detail to the guests. The achievements and experiences gained in the development of accreditation system for medical education in the past ten years were also shared.

The invitation shows that the international profession approve and pay attention to and the accreditation of medical education in China. This symposium has enabled international colleagues to have a thorough understanding of China’s medical education and the accreditation system. At the same time, the full exchanges and experience-sharing with various organizations and institutions further promoted the international exchange of WCAME.
