According to the instruction of the Ministry of Education, the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education (WCAME) organized assessors to conduct site visit of Mudanjiang Medical University (May 10-14), Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities (May 24-28), Putian University (June 22-26), Northwest University for Nationalities (October 18-22), Sun Yat-sen University (October 18-22), Jiujiang University (October 18-22), Wuhan University (October 25-29), Jining Medical University (October 25-29), Southern Medical University (November 1-5), Dalian University (November 1-5), Xuzhou Medical University (November 8-12), Wuhan University of Science and Technology (November 8-12), Chengdu Medical College (November 22-26), Ningbo University (November 22-26), Shaoxing University (November 22-26), Jianghan University (November 29-December 3) and Changsha Medical University (December 6-10), against Standards for Basic Medical Education (for Trial Implementation).

According to the Guidelines for the Accreditation of Medical Education (for Trial Implementation), all the seventeen medical schools had conducted self-evaluation against the Standards and submitted their self-evaluation reports to the secretariat of the WCAME and assessors two months ahead of the site visit. The assessors carefully studied the self-evaluation report before the site visit, which enabled them better understanding of the actual situation of the medical schools. During the site visit, assessors talked with the representatives of faculty, students, administrative staff, the affiliated hospitals and other stakeholders, and visited educational resources, including those available in teaching sites, to identify the strength and weakness of the school in achieving its mission and objectives against the Standards. Before leaving, the assessment team presented a preliminary report on the findings of the site visit to the medical school.

After the site visit, each assessor is to prepare his/her part of the accreditation report against the Standards based on the material and information collected during the site visit, and submit it to the team chair, who will complete the accreditation report within two months after the site visit. After seeking the comment of the medical schools on the factual accuracy of the report, the team chair will submit the final report and recommendations on accreditation outcome to the WCAME for review and the Expert Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education for approval.
