On September 23rd, 2016, jointly hosted by the Medical Education Professional Committee of China Association of Higher Education and the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education, organized by Chengdu Medical College, the 2016 Training for Schools of the Accreditation of Medical Education was successfully held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. More than 300 educators from more than 60 medical colleges and universities across the country attended the training.
Prof. Yu Xiaoping, president of Chengdu Medical College, Mr. Gao Bin, deputy director of the Division of Agriculture, Forestry and medicine of the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, and Prof. Wang Weimin, deputy secretary-general of the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. On behalf of all the teachers and students of Chengdu Medical College, Professor Yu Xiaoping expressed sincere welcome to the leaders, experts and colleagues. Based on the speeches of the national leaders at the National Health and Wellness Conference in August 2016, Mr. Gao Bin analyzed the impact of the policy of construction of healthier China on medical education from the aspects of aging, big health concept, graded diagnosis and treatment system, health industry and development of traditional Chinese medicine. He summed up the current three aspects of higher medical education needing improvements and pointed out the direction of future development of medical education. Professor Wang Weimin expressed his gratitude to Chengdu Medical College for organizing this training and hoped to strengthen the exchange and cooperation among medical colleges and universities through the accreditation platform to promote the vigorous development of medical education in China.
In the presentation session, Professor Wang Weimin introduced the newly revised 2016 edition of Standards for Basic Medical Education in China. He interpreted the standards from various aspects such as the background of the revision, the references, the process, principles, and comparison of the new and previous standards. Combining with the importance of the formulation of cultivation plans of medical education and the evolution of the formulation of cultivation plans of colleges and universities in China, Professor Yang Mianhua pointed out the problems of formulating clinical medical cultivation plans in China. Based on the educational reform experience of Shantou University Medical College and the lessons learned from the fact of American doctors' quality homogenization, she shared her suggestions on how to develop a good cultivation plan.
In the symposium of “Experience Sharing of Accreditation for Medical Education” session, Professor Wen Mingang from Southern Medical University, Professor Pan Kejian from Chengdu Medical College, and Professor Yang Libin from Harbin Medical University introduced their experience of preparing for accreditation and education reform measures. They emphasized the important role of accreditation in improving the education quality of clinical medical programmes. Subsequently, Mrs. Xie Ana from the secretariat of the Working Committee for the Accreditation of Medical Education gave a detailed introduction to the procedures of medical accreditation and how to use the on-line working system.
In the symposium of “Exploration of Clinical Medical Education Reform”, Professor Wang Qing from Fudan University analyzed the current status and her suggestions on PBL teaching in China. Professor Wang Yun from Peking University introduced the reform measures and effects of the preclinical medicine curriculum system during the school's “new approach” education and teaching reform. Professor Li Haichao from the First Hospital of Peking University explained the significance of the A2-type test based on clinical situation in the student assessment. Professor Lai Yanni from Fudan University shared the basic principles of OSCE and SP application in clinical evaluation.
Participants exchanges their feelings with the keynote speakers on the concept of high quality accreditation and the quality improvement of medical education. This training established a link and platform for enhancing mutual understanding among medical schools, and also laid a good foundation for the promotion of the accreditation of medical education.
